WHO ARE YOU?
A bunch of ferrets stacked on top of one another. No, but really, my name is Robin and I'm an active fandom participant since 2007. I've worn the hat of author, artist, reader, event organizer - and now, fanbinder!
WHAT IS "FANBINDING"?
Fanbinding is the practice of taking a fan fiction and handcrafting it into a physical book.
HOW CAN I LEARN?
Please check out
renegadepublishing's resources and feel free to reach out to me with questions!
WHAT IS "RENEGADE PUBLISHING"?
renegadepublishing is a not-for-profit guild of artists engaged in fanbinding—publishing in extremely limited edition fannish works under the idea of fandom gift economy.
DO YOU TAKE COMMISSIONS?
I call them "At-Cost Bindings", as I do not like the transactional nature that "commissions" implies. Please see my at-cost bindings page for more information.
WHY DO YOU FANBIND?
Fic precipitates art, and vice versa. We are the products of all of the history that's come before, all of the champions who paved the way for us. I think armoredsuperheavy's mission statement expresses all of these feelings in a far more comprehensive manner than I can, so I'll let you go read all about it from them. At the end of the day - fandom history is important to me, and we've lost so much of it. Fanbinding is a means of preserving these fics in a tangible way, as well as elevating them to the same level as any other published book. Who is to say which story is worthy of ink and paper, and which isn't? Who is to say which is more important, the canon or the fanon, when they sit as equals on a shelf?
